Yin and Yang

Seemingly opposing forces inside my mind, battle each other for supremacy. On one hand I feel the anxious tone of many fellow Manitobans, on the other I have to admire the splendid beauty of the forces at work here. I am reminded of how impotent we are, in spite of all our plans, and dreams, our toil, and sweat. In our submissive state, we still bow to the forces of nature, which we often pretend to control. Just one more reminder that we merely bend, and weave nature. Then cross our fingers.

Available light.

Available light can go a long way towards defining shape and texture of a subject. The advantage of portable lighting, is that I can bring that sort of light with me, wherever I go. I have recently invested in off camera lighting equipment, to gain more full control over light direction, brightness, and intensity. Speaking of intensity, look at those eyes!

Flow

Photographing a family is a lot like photographing a butterfly. Watching, waiting, for just the right moment, when the stars align, and you take the gift that nature has allowed you to see. With a family, you can pose all you like. The best photos still come from the spontaneous moments, that flow from genuine feelings.

Canoe

n
Photography is a passion for me. There is something about visualizing a photograph in your mind, and then creating that image. Sometimes you find the perfect time, the perfect place. Saving it forever. This was one of those times.

This is a canoe overlooking a lake in North Western Ontario at sundown. Such quiet beauty. This is the Canada I love.

About Me

I have been a photographer for many years, and yet I learn something new about photography every day. I enjoy making images, and telling stories. I try not to snap pictures. That's dirty, but sometimes it happens. I love it when I have all the time in the world figure out what the story is, and to think about how to effectively tell the story. My true passion is the natural world. Plants, animals, landscapes. But beauty can be found in many places. Perhaps, even everywhere. I hope you will join me, as I look at the world I live in, and see things through my eyes.
