Manitoba Filipino Street Festival (2013)

I had a chance to view and photograph the 2013 Manitoba Filipino Street Festival this year. I could not be there for all of the festivities, but I really enjoyed the time I had to spend there. I hope I can spend more time at next year's festival! If you are involved with this festival, and would like to have some dedicated coverage of the things that your group does to really help make next year's festival a success, be sure to contact me! I would love some behind the scenes opportunities!

Here are some of the things I saw this year...

Debut Party

I have never photographed a Filipino Debut party before.  It was both exciting, and interesting.  I did not know what to expect, but the opportunity was too good to pass up.

Early on the big day, I took some photos of JD getting ready, doing her make-up and some formal shots of her modelling the first gown she would wear at the event.  She looked absolutely stunning.

I arrived at the venue early in the evening, to take some photos of the preparations, before the guests started to arrive.  The venue was the Pampanga Restaurant & Banquet Hall.  They had wonderful decorations and fast efficient service.

The guest of honour came down the decorated staircase, and took up her position to receive her candles, and roses.  Her friends come down the stairs as couples.  The men with roses, while the women receive a lit candle.  The men give her the roses, and the women surround her with lit candles as she dances with each of the men, holding an ever growing bouquet of white roses.

She took a seat in a chair in the centre of the hall, and had people whom she cherished talk to her, and tell the guests about their daughter JD.

Her father also put on a show with his band.  He rocked the house!

JD then gave some speeches to all who gathered, and performed some music with her a capella group, which sounded fantastic!  Clearly musical talent runs deep in the family.

Then the lights went down, and the party turned to dancing.

It was a great experience that I can't wait to do again!
